what's cool
« on: June 08, 2010, 05:24:30 PM »
Whenever someone posts something you think is cool here in the Apocalypse World forums, post a quick link to it in this thread.

Please don't link to your own posts, link to others'.

Cool can mean thoughtful or thought-provoking, generous, funny, insightful, incisive, whatever. No commentary allowed -- commentary belongs in the thread you're linking to, not in this thread -- but do say in a word or two what you think is cool about it.

Thanks!

-Vincent

Brilliant approach to the world's psychic maelstrom.

Fingers on the Firmament takes a different approach to Fronts and Threats. Much to learn here!

And the thread before that one from the same game. Ah me. When Bret says he's been made to feel like he's been playing the child friendly version of a game, it's worth a notice. Who didn't shudder at the fallout from deactivating the extermination sub-routine?

This thread is just warming up. In my own games, I've wondered whose job it is to bring the Weird, whether the MC is meant to be receptive, as in the Dogs supernatural dial, or whether they could push things into the bizarre. Some nice ideas here as to *how*.

This thread was really useful to me in terms of explaining threats and filling out the world with them, as well as front creation.

A funny, interesting, sharp observation.

This thread (and Michael Pfaff's hack itself) have taken my interest in the Dark Sun setting from zero to sixty in record time. The fact that they did *not* have anything to go off for Dark Sun but what is included in the hack might have added to the coolness, as you get that same exploration/shared investment in the setting and situation that you get with AW.

I think Joe is onto something very cool with his Monsterhearts hack.  If I could point to the whole subforum I would.  Instead, though, I'll point to the particular thread I've found the most interesting so far, that on his "darkest self" mechanic:
