Dungeon World / Re: foreign newbie questions

1. Whoever kind of leads the party or organizes it makes the roll and spends the coin, so just one roll.

2. The GM distributes the points.

3. Basically, what it means is that you will always suffer some cost for using the hireling to defy danger (typically the hireling getting hurt for you), so that's where the "can't get a 10+" comes from.

They are part of the game, in a way. Certain classes have advanced moves that modify a basic move on a 12+ (Barbarians and Thieves have one for Defy Danger, Fighters have one for Hack and Slash). The reason every move doesn't have something written out for a 12+ is that it complicates move creation (what's better than a total success?) and it cheapens it for those players who picked up the advanced move.

I really dig this class. Like, a LOT. However, you have a few non-choices in the Gear. Why not beat-up breastplate (2 armor, 3 weight) instead of leather armor? Same thing with the weapons; why not make them a rapier (close, precise, 1 weight) or scimitar (close, +1 damage, 2 weight)? Otherwise, I think this class rocks!

I like it! The clarification is good; it makes it so they can't have lava baths or stuff like that.

Well, if it's a racial move, then it would be easier to say "You're too fluffy to die. You are immune to damage caused by the environment." Racial moves are typically something that you can just do, it's not a roll.

You could make being Zelda a compendium class with the trigger "When you reveal your true identity to escape a crisis..."

Dungeon World / The Champion (First Draft)
« on: February 13, 2013, 05:55:24 PM »
I was looking through Rich Burlew's gaming articles, and I stumbled upon the Champion class, a sort of fantasy superhero. Naturally, I thought I would try my hand at creating it in Dungeon World. Here it is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tu0pt8wso7kehw3/Champion%20Character%20Sheet.docx
It ended up looking kind of like the original, but with a fair amount of religious leader thrown in. I'd love any feedback, especially any ideas about additional advanced moves.

Looks good to me. That's actually pretty clever!

Dungeon World / Superhero DW Hack
« on: January 07, 2013, 08:26:57 PM »
Over the holidays, I started thinking (that's never a good thing) about different genres that DW could cover. Naturally, I thought about superheroes. Instead of races, you'd have origins (maybe Mystical, Alien, Technological/Scientific, or Mutant).

The classes (or archetypes, I don't know if classes is still the right word) are gonna be the hard part though. There's just so much variation between heroes! For example, should Green Lantern and Iron Man be in one Item-Bearer archetype, or separate classes, like the Ringbearer and Battlesuit? I guess I'm looking for any insights.

Question, though, what would you base the Bard on?

Yeah, that actually works really well. Sort of a sense motive sort of thing.

Ok, fair enough. That makes sense.

Well, willpower could be connected to either Intelligence (knowing is half the battle) or Tact (a willful personality). I don't know, seven attributes seems like too many. Maybe that's just because I've mainly played d&d-like games.

Sounds like an interesting proposal. One thing though: wisdom was always the perception stat, as far as I know.
