Apocalypse World / Re: Hoarder separated from her hoard
« on: August 28, 2012, 09:51:29 AM »
That -1 is just the mechanics. If you lead with the fiction -- always distracting Wembley with the psychic assault, it doesn't strike me as boring.
Is Wembley going back to the hoard or moving on? I like the idea that the hoard can divide, but only if it fits the game. So now there are two, Wembley's little hoard that escaped the chaos and the one left behind who adopted a new keeper. Maybe they talk. Maybe they hate each other.

Apocalypse World / Re: Handling PC versus PC seduce/manipulate

In that case, I'd tell them they could make their manipulate roll whenever they wanted to and help or interfere as they saw fit. And I'd let them negotiate. If it went long, I'd turn to another player and start a scene with them and let the other two keep at it until something outside interfered.

Esoteric Training: amusing pastimes or games of skill and chance or something
Above the Law: when you plunge a blade into another person, do +2 damage?
I actually really like the idea that the assistant could level higher than the PC. That seems like it captures the noble essence better. Maybe you end up sort of a hive character.
And I'd like Gold Magnet better if the 7-9 result got you the same cash as the hard hit, but with complications.

That's what I thought.

Expanded Soul (must have Expanded Mind)
When you use Oneness you gain 5 Focus. Your maximum Focus is 5. When you take a life, you lose all focus.
Also, how do Battlebody and Dragon Turtle's Shell interact? How does Dragon Turtle's Shell interact with armor?

Apocalypse World / Re: Increasing difficulty? PC's never fail?
« on: July 11, 2012, 09:00:11 AM »they have no mechanical role in the systemThere's a thing I'm not sure I understand about "mechanical role."
It sounds like you think that if the game tells me as the MC playing NPC Bubba, when I decide that Bubba wants to beat your PC down to roll this and that and compare it to a table and let the PC react in this way or this other way, that that's a mechanical role. Am I close?
Apocalypse World guides me along a little about when I should decide that Bubba acts on his wanting to beat you down and gives me some rules for what to say. I mean, I don't roll those dice like I described above, but I do say something like "OK Keeler, take 3 harm AP as the rifle's bullet passes in through your neck and down through your shoulder. Roll the harm move."
To your thinking, what is the critical difference between those two scenarios that "divorces [NPCs] from heavy PC consideration?"

Apocalypse World / Re: Apocalyptic Science!

True. But the default setting stipulates that there's no shortage of fuel and bullets too. If you're looking at realism, you're already diverging. :)

Apocalypse World / Re: when high stats work against you
« on: July 10, 2012, 09:06:05 AM »
I was playing with a move that isn't exactly that, but it's recasting a negative as a positive (which is also what you're doing):
When you take advantage of the hold's hospitality, roll+numberOfDebilities. On a hit, they'll feed you for a while. On a 10+, just about everyone really believes you deserve it.

As I read that explanation, I wonder when it's more sensible to make easier, cruder black powder and just muzzle-load. There must be some economic factor that decides if fancy powder and cartridges are a going concern.

If you stick a turbine between the boiler and the condenser does it mess up the energy of the transformation or do you get free electricity out of the system?

That's remarkable. Just this morning on the drive to work, I was thinking of drifting Apocalypse World with almost that exact idea. I was thinking of a 'humanity' countdown clock that would suffer when you killed folks.

Yeah, sanity costs should normally be 1, not 1d6. And how do you heal it? I dunno -- there aren't any rules for it. Good luck!
When someone with a holy connection (clerics and paladins, sure, maybe others) opens a channel and looks directly upon their god to beseech a major boon, loose one sanity and roll+wis. On a hit, your god looks upon your request favorably. On a 7-9 they require something of you as well. Or something.

Dungeon World / Re: Two Weapon Fighting
« on: July 05, 2012, 09:39:20 AM »
I agree that fighting with two long swords doesn't change the damage unless there's a move that says so. On the other hand, there is one advantage. When I shatter your first sword, you still have one. Check out the dude next to you with the broken flail and the look of astonishment. :)
