Apocalypse World / Savvyhead "get a gang" -> a robot?
« on: August 21, 2016, 04:15:34 AM »
Howdy.
We just started a new game using the 2nd ed preview- AWESOME first session. The Hx clarification is awesome.

So our Savvyhead is already looking at improvements... and looked at the get a gang option, and asked. "Hey, can I build myself a gang?"

Would making a robot from scraps and bits and pieces be interesting and OK by the rules? (yes it would become a NPC)

Apocalypse World / How many playbook options?
« on: July 09, 2013, 08:25:46 PM »
Just wondering, what sort of process do you all go through when starting a game - how many playbooks is a good number to offer? All of them? A couple per player?

What process do you use for choosing which playbooks etc?

The Regiment / Re: Don't understand the damage...

Ahh, thank you, much clearer now.
There should be an example, as the 2.0 rules don't make this so clear.

Howdy.

I'm not quite getting the damage rules.

How does the 3d damage of a carbine relate to the for table?
Will I do stress damage ( direct fire?) or do I roll 3d6 and sum it and do that much stress?

Holy crap this is a sweet set of rules!  I love how everything you do slowly causes the inevitable attention of the mega corps, and that it cost a lot of cred to postpone it...

Very nice.

Heh.
No, I mean 2 people... 1 player and 1 mc.

Almost tempted to give it a try. The mechanics and playbook style makes the game easy to explain and grasp, so it has a lot going for it!

Apocalypse World / 1 player game?

Hey. I was just wandering if anyone has tried apoc-world with GM-player only?
I know that ther will be a lot missing (other players for starters) but would the game still work? Or does the whole thing fall apart?

Sagas of the Icelanders / Re: Mediography

Heh. I have a neat lot of them translated :) They are fun read, but hard to get for some people.

I was suggesting another book series that has a nice feel to it :)

Just remembered something - we were talking about what stories are good inspiration for people who haven't read the sagas...

Try reading the Arthurian legend books of Bernard Cornwall...
The Winter King, Enemy of God etc.

They have very strong gender separation, open conflict between the old gods and the new christians, lots of possible magic/possible superstition things going on, matters of honour and being goaded into action, and a battle for survival against a harsh world.

It just needs the cold weather to make it a better fit :)

Well, I had a good night of playing this game with some lovely icelanders who are really loving this game.

They are raring to play it again, although with a few minor tweaks. I made a more indepth comment here

Basically we all LOVED this hack.

Only few issues were
- villages and holdings need to get in there.
- women REALLY control the men. Perhaps too much so.
- Barter and Bonds - needs more!!!!
- Wyrd seems to be missing, want more prophesy and fate involved.

Okiedokie.. awesome start now.

Next questions. I remember reading a post by lumpley on how he made the black&white images for the playbooks etc. I though I had bookmarked it, but apparently hadn't.

Anyone got a link?

Also - assuming use of using adobe acrobat? or Adobe InDesign?

I dont know if it has been asked already - but what tools/fonts/etc were used in the creation of the playbooks.

I LOVE the trifold format, and want to try making my own :)

roleplaying theory, hardcore / Re: Revelations of the Apocalypse (World)

This hits directly to the core of the game I am MC'ing now. (yeah, its not Apoc World, but i'm using pretty much the same MC principles etc).

I have a suspicion that some of this will come from the creation of fronts. When the MC makes these fronts he is making some decisions about the agenda of that front and its threats - You are partially making a backstory as you are making connections between threats.

The "drive to figure stuff out" is a very very important one (I feel). The majority of threats are not just the bunch of guys with guns - its trying to figure out "why are those guys with guns gunning for me" - the WHY of a situation is very important for the characters/players to base their decisions - hence the drive to figure out why.
