Healing moves targeting
« on: September 18, 2013, 02:44:42 PM »
Hi there,

I have a question about whether or not can the user of the following moves by default also target himself:

Bard - Arcane Art (healing)
Cleric - Cast a spell (healing)
Druid - Balance
Paladin - Lay on Hands

thanks.

You'll have to decide at the table. The GM and players should talk it out and decide what makes sense, given how magic and dieties work in your world. Traditionally, the Bard and Paladin can only heal others and not themselves, I think... but there's no reason beyond 'tradition,' yeah?

You might ask the Cleric, "Hey, does your god allow you to heal yourself, or only others? It says 'allies' in the book, does that mean your allies, or allies of your god? What about, like, peasants?" Depending on your group, your Cleric, and the established fiction, these answers may vary.

Just from a mechanical standpoint you probably shouldn't let the Paladin target themselves, because on a 7-9 nothing happens - they heal and take an equivalent amount of damage. Everybody else seems fair game, though.

My group has played it as you cant heal yourself - you cant be your own ally.

However, the table should decide - you are all telling the story together.
