Dungeon World / Re: So, The Druid

Should World-Talker require Thing-Talker? Given the amount of linked Moves for the Druid, this one would seem to make sense as well, especially since they're thematically linked it seems, with the former being the more "pure" or "refined" expression of the latter.

As for Elemental Mastery, I agree that it seems a little odd to have a move that seems only a partial success on a 10+. However, I have a question about the way one of the options for success is worded.

You retain control
Given that the other two options effectively get what you want done and prevent any backlash against you from an angry elemental spirit, this option seems to convey that you continue to control the elemental beyond the initial use of the Move, and can subsequently command other tasks later.

I'm not really seeing the summoning of an elemental so much as elemental forces being coerced into compliance, much more in the theme of L5R. Though I could definitely see a further advanced option (lvls 6-10) where an elemental spirit is summoned to fight or serve the druid. It makes me wonder though what exactly people see "retaining control" as meaning.

Dungeon World / Re: How about Load = Strenght Score?

If I'm not mistaken Load, as written, doesn't necessarily place a hard limit on how much you can carry.

Keep your Load in mind—it limits how much you can easily carry. -- page 23, Beta 2.3

To me, this says that you can carry more than your Load would allow for, but that it isn't easy. Beta 2.3 also states that carrying more than your Load causes problems.

I would imagine that it would make for slow going through a dungeon, and present difficulties in combat and for other special maneuvers (whenever a Move comes into play, perhaps), but that it isn't strictly disallowed.

Fictionally, I see adventurers sloughing off backpacks and other extraneous items before leaping into combat or attempting to climb a sheer cliff. It just seems like those items would get in the way anyway and that most of them would seek to set down items they won't need for the immediate task at hand.

A few classes (like the Thief and Ranger) might have an interest in only carrying items within their Load so that they can always have their tools on hand no matter where they go, but who knows.

Additionally, this makes ambushing the characters even more effective for those carrying more Weight than their Load allows.

Any thoughts?

I'm actually in the middle of converting my current 4E D&D game into Dungeon World. We just finished the Kobold Hall quest and I'll be running them through Keep on the Shadowfell (heavily modified to not suck btw). I'll post our experiences as we go, but I think it'll go swimmingly.
