I went through this too while writing my Anansi skin, and I'm still not sure I have it quite perfect yet. Off the top of my head, I think Addictive and My Bitch, while thematically appropriate, cover the same territory...they're ways to get over on someone. In fact, The Devil Is A Winner does this too. Various combinations of those moves applied against a single target would, I think, create play that's not very suspenseful (and maybe not fun; it would depend I suppose).

Also, it seems fairly criminal that a Succubi skin doesn't have some special enhancement to the Turn Someone On move. Maybe I'm thinking inside the box, but I'd be trying to work that into the Succubi's default move somehow.

I have thoughts about Shapechanger as well, but I'm not sure I can articulate them just yet. I love gender-bending and I feel like there should be a move to accomodate this (at the same time, it'd be a shame to overlap thematic territory with what Jackson is doing). Maybe when the Succubus turns someone on, they may ask the player they're targeting who their character's idealized sexual partner is...and that's the form the succubus takes (and can take whenever they're appearing to that character)?

Just some thoughts. I like the skin a lot...the bitter jilted lover idea is great, and some of the moves really grab me. Just This Time is probably my favorite.

Had my game started this week instead of last, this would be on the table. If I manage to bring anyone new into the game, it'll be an option.

Off the cuff, I do feel like 9 moves plus gifts is a lot to squeeze into a skin. Feels like it's pushing the envelope a bit much.

The Serpentine skin is free for download from the Buried Without Ceremony site.

I was able to acquire my Hollow skin a couple weeks ago from Joe for a donation to a charity of my choice. I snagged the Selkie by emailing Jackson Tegu (I offered him a bribe of sorts; I doubt that had anything with to do with him giving me the skin but I'm not sure it will be available forever and ever either). Jackson's website is here:

I like the idea of having the basic moves and whatnot right on the character sheet, but I haven't quite decided if I'm going to address that within my game or just let it be. My roomie printed out all the Skins dual-sided on heavy card stock to create sort of a "play mat" for each player, and I kind of want to keep the play space in front of each person limited to pretty much that and their dice.

Nice! Although technically not the first time, very cool to see something I did in French. I think you managed more brevity than I did! :)

Also, I need to get back to my French lessons.

The Anansi needed another way to get Strings anyway. It's kinda their thing.

I appreciate the feedback. This is what I was hoping for. :)

(also noticed another mistake: It should be choose two moves + Hidden Agenda, not one. Fixed now though.)

That's kind of you. :)

I tweaked it a bit, based upon your suggestions. I subbed in a tried and true move trope for Shame On Me, and upon reflection, I think it makes more sense this way. I bumped the bonus on Death Can't Climb to bring it more in line with other moves that provide specific one-time bonuses. Still thinking about it though.

Oh good! Thanks!

You might be right. This'll be my first time with Monsterhearts so I don't have a strong sense of the String economy yet. Maybe there is a need to boost it...I'll brainstorm and see what I come up with.

Thanks!

I dunno if they're weak especially or just simplistic when compared to the other moves (I kind of feel like I made all these moves too complicated). I think they'll see more play than some of the others because the fictional context in which they can come into play will be much broader. That may not matter, though, if the players get googly-eyed about the more exotic moves and don't take these ones. Personally, shame on me is my favorite of the moves, mostly because I want to play with the whole "who is most disappointed and why" mechanic.

Hey all,

I'm workshopping this custom skin for my upcoming teenagers-on-spring-break-in-The-Bahamas game and figured y'all might have some feedback. I haven't written much in the way of color text yet, but the theme is the schemer...they might be the class clown, the braggart, the gossiper, or the quiet contemplative one, but there's always an ulterior motive to their behavior. They might get laid low from time to time, but they always get back up.

Darkest Self: You have to prove your worth! Put yourself in mortal danger against something that, by all rights, you have no chance of defeating. Escape your Darkest Self when you defeat it, or your friends rescue you (or maybe restrain you and force you to see reason?).

(How many times did Xander go off and do this? A bunch as I recall.)

I like the Sex Move inversion.

Was the moon full tonight? You don't remember it being so, but everything seems unfamiliar since this strange fog sprung up. Suddenly a naked man stumbles out of it and into you...his hair is wild and his body is spattered with blood. "Help me," he pleads before passing out in your arms. Just then a howl cuts through camp, and a moment later of a chorus of them reply back from the woods all around you...

I may just be missing it, but on what page does it mention that your mark xp on a miss?

I've searched the document a couple times and can't find that information either. As someone who's sort of late to the game (I've yet to have a chance to playtest, so never got in on the AG or any versions post redbook), I have FEELINGS about XP. :p

Also, not sure where the discussion on layout is going to happen, but the location of the move descriptions seemed inorganic to me as well.
