Apocalypse World / Re: Playbook Idea, The Viper´s tongue

i'm having difficulty seeing the "get a gang" and "get a holding' options as ones that make sense for this character. this book seems to be about being the second in command and having a gang or a holding implies leadership which doesn't seem to fit

I totally see where you're coming from and I agree. even looking at the scavenge the ruins move you choose how much trouble you want with it or if making some trouble is worth finding something hi-tech or valuable. how's this look:

I Know Just Where to Look: when you want to scavenge to the ruins but need a place to do so roll+sharp on a 10+ choose 3 On a 7-9 (choose 1)
You have little trouble getting there
It’s not inhabited
It’s not infected
It's has few environmental hazards

I was thinking about incorporating this playbook in my game. Our skinner loves to scavenge the ruins and in fact his entire wardrobe is trash I thought this would be a neat option if he wanted to change playbooks.

However, since I've already kind of established that Scavenging the Ruins is not an exclusive move i came up with this one let me know what you think.

I Know Just Where to Look: when you want to scavenge to the ruins but need a place to do so roll+sharp on a 10+ you know where to look. On a 7-9 you know where but…(choose 1)
It’s hard to get to
It’s inhabited
It’s infected
It's a shit location

i was thinking about this one and about what children are like in general in apoc world and i was wondering about how you would go about running a short prelude before a campaign as to what some of the characters were like when they were kids.

any thoughts

seems awesome had a child show up in our game and he became an interesting front until he was blown up with a grenade

ok will do. wasn't sure what ap meant but i will definitely give it a good look over. i've really enjoyed being the MC so far. I've DMed for DnD before and this is nothing like it. at first i felt lost but i'm starting to get the hang of it. Vincent wrote a great game. it's been a blast.

thanks for the warm reception to the forums hoping to get more involved with the online community and it's nice to get a warm welcome :)

Apocalypse World / share your apoc world stories
« on: February 11, 2011, 08:29:38 AM »
hey all just finished my 3rd session of apocalypse world and i wanted to share some of the awesome characters that have sprung and and hear from you all as to some of the great characters that have made their way into your games

here is goes,

1.Frog the Faceless - frog is 6 1/2 feet of gangly crazy. he wears an old gas mask (that the player actually wears the whole session. how cool!!) and fights as a small gang with his machete. he refers to his mask as Missy and we've pieced together so far that she was someone important to him in his past but not much more about him. he abhors stealing but will sever a dead man's hand to get the ring he has. he keeps the whole hand and trades it all as barter. last session he attacked some raiders and chose to frighten and inflict terrible harm. as the man starts screaming at his now open stomach guts hanging out Frog begins to scream with him mimicking what he says. awesome.

2. Oliver the Savyhead. Oliver is the "normal" one of the group (strange i know) she has a greenhouse and refuses to open her brain to the psychic maelstrom after seeing the botched rolls of several other characters. she has recently shown a bit of a love interest for our Driver

3. Jag the Driver. Jag has a tank that is his baby and his first session ruined it by crashing into a rock to save a fellow member who he has bad history with. kind of our white knight. this last session was the first time he made any rolls in one of his cars to add their power etc (take away their stuff). he recently opened his brain along with our skinner to get a glimpse of the future. they saw a zeppelin that noone has ever seen before and assumed it was aliens. they began to scream and shout about aliens and cause a seen. still waiting to see him brake out of his shell a little. he definitely has the hots for Oliver.

4. Lavender the Skinner - Lavender is as sophisticated as a garbage picker can be with his busted out top hat and broken monocle. he has a soft spot for puppies and recently spent his two "choose a move from another playbook" to take moves from the "boy and his dog" book that is on the forums. his dog speaks to his telepathically and i had him roll +weird to see how strong the connection is he rolls a 5 and it's decided that the telepathic link is one way from the dog to him. and it's never filtered and always on. needless to say it's been fun playing the dog and the other character's responses to his one sided verbal conversations with his dog. also he is paranoid that the aliens will come for them all.

5. Doc the angel - doc joined us this session and has been the first to screw over any of the other players to save his own ass. he rolled 7-9's on a few acting under fire rolls and was given the choice to take damage himself or let someone else take it. every time he chose to fuck over the pc's. finally after saving our Savyhead from near death he attends to our Brainer who had deep brain scanned him earlier and botches several heal rolls to make it all worse. he's acting under fire and has another hard choice: heal the brainer and let him into his head again or let him die. it takes a minute and he chooses to let him die. Epic

6. Pity the Brainer - Pity wears a gimp mask with the eyes zipped shut and a shiny leather bondage version of the pinhead jacket from hellraiser. he has no compassion and it weird as fuck and funny as hell. he and frog has begun to grow close when they opened their brains together to the Psychic maelstrom. he requests that he is allowed to make one last weird roll before he dies to access the psychic maelstrom one last time. frog joins him and the two walk down a long black hallway towards a green-black swirling vortex of psychic maelstrom. as they walk pity regains his strength and they reach the end as pity stands tall. they share a very touching moment where we see the soft side of the Faceless. they finish their talk as pity walks into the maelstrom. very cool. best moment of all three sessions so far.

well that's the cast (six players seems like a lot but they all seem to be enjoy themselves). i'd love to hear some of the characters you all have had pop up in your games.
