The New Stats
« on: March 25, 2014, 10:43:55 AM »
Somebody asked on my blog (it was Joao), so I spilled. Yes, new stats: Cunning, Grace, Prowess; Rites and War.

Yes, I know that three of the stats are things you exercise, one is a thing you enact, and the last is a thing you wage. I understand if that bugs you, but it's okay. They reflect well what you use them for, and that's by far more important than making them superficially parallel. You'll get used to it.

The new basic moves are:
Draw someone out (Cunning)
Advance under cover (Cunning)
Offer someone counsel (Grace)
Confront an obstacle (Prowess)
Resort to the sword (Prowess)
Supplicate your gods (Rites)
Lead an attack (War)
Survey the field (War)

Heh. There's no way to +1 posts here.

I like the separation of War and Prowess. A lot.

Completely aside: I want to play a Grace character.

When's the new countdown starting?

Really glad to hear that there are new stats - I saw in a prior thread that this was ruled out, and was already game-planning how to navigate the dissonance between genre and the prior stat names.

Having this reinforce the genre is going to make it a LOT easier to explain this to new/inexperienced roleplayers who love the genre but are new to games.

Resort to the sword

Sounds amazing.

I suppose I should wait till the new version, but is Claim Your Right gone? I really liked the idea of making unreasonable demands and forcing people to insult me.

thumbs up on separating prowess and war. Just because you fight well on the tourney field doesn't mean you can lead a charge, or vice versa.

Very nice! Interested to see how these will play out, particularly Offer Someone Counsel, which sounds like another tool for persuasion/social manipulation.

And here I thought the "no new stats" thing was set in stone. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Confront An Obstacle YESSSSSSS that's great, just perfect. I also really liked Claim Your Right but these outweigh the loss by far. Great stuff!

You'll be happy to know that offering counsel is mechanically the same move as claiming your right.

Looks much better, I'm glad you decided to move away from them. It seemed a logical step to use the AW stats as starting positions, most do when it comes to Hacking the system.

If you ever become interested:
Strategy or Hostility are both something you exercise which is intrinsic to you ability to wage war, &
Faith is something you exercise which is intrinsic to Rituals, Rites, and the like.

Although responding following that last post makes me lol.
As offering council in this regard isn't the same as claiming my right.
