Games to play after AW
« on: December 08, 2011, 07:46:02 AM »
My group just finished a very satisfying campaign of AW. None of us can commit to a long-term, so we're going to use our next 4-5 sessions to play one-shot games or a mini-campaign. We liked AW for its rule-lightness and its focus on strong, capable protagonists who are free to do their own thing. However, this campaign was pretty intense, and we'd probably prefer something that isn't too serious.

Do you have any recommendations for what we should play next?

Check out Dread. All you need is a Jenga tower and some friends. Best game in the world for creating tension, and it's exclusively one-shot so no commitment. The quick start rules are enough to run a quick session.

There is nothing after Apocalypse World. Only Apocalypse World hacks.

...just kidding. Try John Harper's Ghost/Echo. If you just played AW, you'll get it in a pinch.

D&D4e, obviously.

IME, when a game of AW is over, you want to play something dissimilar for a while, in much the same way that after you eat a lot of mac & cheese, you want to go have some sushi and seaweed salad. Contrast contrast contrast.

After mac and cheese I want more mac and cheese, and after AW I want more AW.
