Actually, both remind me how much the Cold War has embedded itself within our idea of the Apocalypse. Real people in the USA committing their whole lives to a nervous apocalyptic fantasy, and people in the former Soviet territories seeing the real, apocalyptic power of nature on a comparatively small scale.
