How to handle pregnancy?

I made a mid-wifing birth move and it was a good deal more cheery than that.  Let me see if I can find it.

I like Jason's hard-based move.  This is life and death and Apocalypse World is rough. 

But I'd also like to make the problem of being pregnant longer term.  Those outcomes seem to focus on the health of the baby rather than the immediacy of surviving birth.  So, keeping the outcomes the same, I'd find a roll+precautions taken more interesting.  Precautions include:
 - 40 weeks of varied, luxury diet
 - regular care from an appropriate provider of healthcare
 - avoiding exposure to toxins
 - avoiding undue stress
 - regular exercise
 - maintaining a clean abode
 - etc.

Or something like that.  Each of those precautions might end up being a goal and generate a bunch of play.  Unless that makes the pregnancy too dominant in the game.

It's a great concept for building other moves off too. Is that your idea?

I think so.  (But I've been (embarrassingly) wrong about whether an idea was mine before.)

When you deliver the baby, roll+ Sharp

on 10+, choose 3.

On 7-9, choose 1.

- The mother is fine, not needing any further medical help to survive.
- The baby is fine, not needing any further medical help to survive.
- You recognize the baby as the reincarnation of a dead PC or NPC or legendary figure from the game's past, name who they are, re-born.
- With your guidance, the baby could achieve something legendary. Name this legendary act in a possible future.

on a miss, the MC can make a move, as mean as they like.

It'd be sweet to make custom moves for other similar things. I'm thinking:

When you finally execute your plan to raid the Hardhold, roll + preparations

+ Scout and map the fortifications
+ Gather enough fuel and ammo
+ Make contact with your guy on the inside

- Your guys lose motivation or loyalty
- The enemy finds out you're coming

10+ It goes great! The gate is open when you arrive, and their defences are down!
7-9: It goes ok. MC, offer a hard choice or a worse outcome.
Miss: It all goes horrible wrong! The gate is closed and they're waiting for you!

Wow, I do love the birth as it's own Front with NPCs and threats. Depending on the dial on your AW game the child as a Grotesque! Awful and awesome.  Looking at it more like everyone trying to survive the childbirth unscathed with the child's well being not in question.  And then a Brainer connects with the child.  Wow.
