Apocalypse World / Name lists
« on: December 17, 2010, 11:26:10 AM »
Vincent, what's up with the name lists in the playbooks?  Most of the books have two lists.  The Brainer has three.  The Chopper and Skinner have just one.  In some cases, I think that I see sort of a difference between the types of names in the lists, in others not.  Anything tricksy going on with that or is it just something mundane like a layout thing to take up the right amount of space?

Apocalypse World / Currency in Apocalypse Worlds
« on: October 22, 2010, 09:51:28 AM »
What do your games use as currency?  Lots of AP write-ups include that info, but I haven't seen a collection of ideas.

I just had this idea for a hold/world where rolls of duct tape were the official currency and started wondering about what other stuff people came up with.

blood & guts / stat-range -2 -> +3...why?
« on: October 15, 2010, 03:50:57 PM »
Vincent, you decided to make the game work by rolling 2d+<thing> where <thing> is quite often a stat that ranges from -2 to +3.  Why that instead of 0-5 and slide the 7-9 and 10+ up a couple of notches?

Was there something specific?  Did you like the way those numbers interfaced with other numbers that are a 0-n scale or something?

Apocalypse World / Fiction-generating responsibilities
« on: September 13, 2010, 03:06:02 PM »
Maybe this is clear in the book and I just zoned over part of it on my read-through.  We started play with just a couple hours available and generated characters and the MC asked some questions.  And in the intervening time, we've done some fiction-building on our local forum.  And there is some concern on the part of the MC that we (players) are taking a too-active role in fiction-generation.  (I hope that's a fair way to paraphrase concerns expressed over several bits of dialog.)

So, it's the MC's job to make Apocalypse World seem real.  And to barf forth apocalyptica.  What happens when a player barfs forth?

What if I, as a player, just say that I'm going to the old air-strip to salvage old engine parts, but the air-strip has never been mentioned before and bother's someone's vision of the setting?  What if it's the MC and what if it's not?
