Apocalypse World / Re: How populated are you Apocalypses?
« on: June 21, 2013, 11:25:06 AM »
I tend towards lots of little holdings in my wastelands. Usually around 30-40 people with a few big "cities" of 100-200 people that have a lot more sway in their region than the small guys and probably run security for those nearby. So it ends up taking on a real regional feel as you move along the wastes. I tend to put my holds about 30-60 minutes drive from one other which I usually translate into a half-a-day to a day's walk. This makes the Driver especially useful as they can make trips in dramatically short time compared to those on foot.

That's at least my classic desert wasteland approach. And now I want to run Apoc World again. Thanks!! :P

@Arscott. Mostly I want to avoid Hx to be more original. I feel like an AW hack should bring new ideas into the fold rather than just re-skinning Apocalypse World.

We had some good alternative ideas over at storygames and google+. Here's the link in case you wanted to check it out.

Thanks!

Okay, after putting off reading this because TLDR instinct kicked in, I finally read it.

This actually looks really cool. I especially like the pull/alignment system a lot. I can see pulling as a very fun exercise.

The Basic Moves are all pretty darn cool too. They instantly inform the setting and I find them very appealing to do. I especially want to "hold fast and defend another" cause that is just awesome.

Good sir, I will happily play this. I am intimidated by it, because it's very different than what I'm used to. But I think it would stretch some new muscles for me.

Hello Vincent,

I would love a forum thread for Urban Shadows - A Modern Dark Fantasy game.

Real world name is Andrew Medeiros. Thanks a bunch!

Also, if you're able to transfer my current thread over I would very much appreciate it. :D

Need some insight on something.

On more than one occasion a player who is rolling+trust to interfere with a fellow player has expressed a concern with the mechanic. Rolling+Trust to help someone, gather resources or hit the streets seems great, but when it comes to that interfere, something is jarring.

"I don't trust this guy's faction, so why am I hindered in trying to resist their moves?" It's a valid question. When I first designed this section I meant Trust to be how much you and a faction's member trust one another and how much you understand the other. I think the wording of Trust is misleading and leads a player to interpret this as their character's Trust in a faction solely.

So, how do I fix this? Do I simply change the naming of the system to something like Affiliation or Rapport or Kinship? Or do we change the way Interfere works. I've had it suggested that when you Interfere with a player, you invert your score. For example, if you're Trust in Wild was -2 and you were Interfering with a Fae, it would change to a +2 for these purposes but remain a negative number when rolling Help or the other Faction moves. This may work, but I feel like adding in a negative/positive switch-up like this is going to confuse players, especially the less rules-intrigued ones. Less is more after all.

Any input would be appreciated. I'd rather make a change with other points of view considered. Thank you.

Apocalypse World / Re: Interesting Place Names

My favourite part was the Wheel of Justice which the hardholder rolled when someone was caught doing a severe crime.
Also, this is amazing!

Naming Holds is one of my favourite parts of MC-ing Apoc World. Here are some of my favourites.

Outpost 86 - An old oil rig in the middle of a desert. Need to climb the ladders and stair along the sides to gain access.

Pigeon - Used this a couple times but players always avoided it. Dunno why.

Crow's Town - Used this name a bunch.

Lights - A town with a working wind generator and christmas lights and other various bulbs used to light it up at night. aka "Blow Town"

Maiden - My personal favourite as it was my Hardholder's Hold. A cruise liner moored in a swamp. Got it's name from the signs on it that were announcing it's Maiden voyage.

Apocalypse World / Re: Changing Character Type
« on: March 14, 2013, 11:41:28 AM »
This is a tricky advance, at least for me. You want to be true to the intrinsic/extrinsic philosophy, but I also like to keep the other players in mind.

I do it this way; and I fully admit my way may be in violation of the spirit of this advance, but it's still how I roll.

If you change playbooks, you get one new move from the new playbook. Unless it's something like Hardholder or Chopper, in which case I consider both moves the value of one new one. If the player wants to gain any additional moves from the new playbook then they need to drop one from their old playbook to balance it out (again treating the hardholder/chopper/hocus-fortune moves as half-moves in this regard). As for new gear, they can take all that's listed in the playbook if it makes sense, obviously a Driver should get his new car and a gunlugger should get his guns.

As I mentioned before, I really would love to see the Ghost also be able to take over a human for a short period of time (say one who is weak minded)
Seems like a fair playbook move. I'll see what I can do. :)

12
That could work. Maybe something like the Selkie's pelt from Monsterhearts. This bears research!

13
Yeah Spook the new name for Specter. I'm really struggling on what kind of Ghost I want to make. It's a hard thing to define.

Oracle will be it's own thing I think. All about visions and foretellings. At least that's my hope.

So, back to Urban Shadows!
haha Here here!

I have added in The Immortal archetype, it'll be in the download link in the original post. I'd love to hear feedback for it. Thanks!

Also working slowly but surely on The Spook, The Wyrm, The King and The Oracle. We shall see what comes of those. :)

I believe the one I know of is Midsummer. Don't know much about it but saw some of the art and it looks pretty sweet.

I'll take a link, sure!
