Apocalypse World / Re: AP: Getting a new character without "getting" it.

I would just let the player start up a new character, and not worry about the advances.

Ah! Thanks for pointing that out.

Apocalypse World / Skinner hypnotic move question
« on: September 08, 2010, 10:57:24 AM »
Does the list of possible hold spends for the Skinner's hypnotic move (be your eyes and ears, etc.) apply to PCs as well as NPCs?  Specifically, can the Skinner tell another PC what to do?  This seems at odds with the notes for rolling a 12+ on an advanced go aggro, which states that it's the only time in the whole game where one player can tell another player what to do.

Apocalypse World / Re: Another Go Aggro vs. Seize by Force question
« on: September 08, 2010, 10:41:47 AM »
Like Matt said, if they fight back, it's seize by force.  If they don't fight back but try to save themselves, it's going aggro, with suck it up and give in collapsing into one outcome, harm.  If they can't do anything to save themselves, then the PC inflicts harm without needing to roll.  That happened in our game last night: a PC wanted to shotgun blast an NPC who was completely distracted, so she did.  Boom, dead NPC.

Apocalypse World / Re: Pre-session 1 prep

At the start of our first session, I offered a few very high level flavors of setting: a drowned world, a lush, poisonous world, a "typical" desert wasteland, etc., and let the players decide which one they were into.

Apocalypse World / Re: Organizing NPCs
« on: September 03, 2010, 10:26:33 AM »
I don't know that I'd like a huge number of named NPCs.  I think I'd have a hard time making them seem real, and my bad-with-names problem in real life is leaking into the game.

"So, last session Ula was trying to claim there was nothing wrong with the mudfish at the same time she was puking up her guts."

"Ula?  Don't you mean Kettle?"

"Yes!  Right!  So..."

Thanks heavens my players are forgiving, and have good memories.  I'm going to make myself a little relationship map with pictures I've pulled off the interwebs, to see if that helps me.

Apocalypse World / Re: MCs: what do you want to do better?
« on: September 01, 2010, 07:43:00 AM »
Sometimes my descriptions feels like the Barf Forth Minute, then we're back to the game.  Need to mix it in better.

A couple of the PCs are less tied-in than the others.  Makes me anxious, and want to start throwing ersatz crappy at them until an NPC sticks.

Ghost wheat: it looks like good, tastes good, but has no nutritional value whatsoever.  You can starve to death eating it.

If the circumstances were right, I'd be tempted to ask for one main roll with help from the others, with everyone who helped getting the bonus for following the advice.  Has a certain cinematic field, with a gang using subtle signals like meaningful glances or muttered comments before the fireworks begin.  But it presupposes a point person, and a united front.

If they're truly separate actors in the situation, then they might be each other's biggest threats and best ways out.   "Popeye, Bluto's always had a soft spot for Olive.  Your best way out is to grab her and stick a gun to her head.  Olive, it wouldn't take much to provoke Bluto into a jealous rage against Popeye, which would give you a chance to slip out."

Apocalypse World / Re: Angels infirmary
« on: August 21, 2010, 02:17:57 PM »
I think an infirmary should facilitate healing above and beyond the field medicine of an angel kit, so perhaps it gives an additional +1 to the angel kit's stabilize roll.  If you want to force spending of at least some resources, you can make it an additional +1 when at least 1-stock is used.
