I guess it comes down to - for each Oregon and play book, how many combinations make sense?

If one focus on stat 'poetry' and the other on stat 'literature' would you ever pick that combo over two focusing on the same stat or niche?

Then, consider a slightly dysfunctional group where one person optimises and the other dosent. The power in balance between the characters can harm the game.

So for me I'd figure out the obvious combinations and just merge them to avoid this. But with careful balancing it could work.

roger. I guessed that was what you were going for, but all but one of the example dangers were fighty and all three specialites and all bar one of the skills felt like a SpaceCorps-MazeRats game. I asked about the colony thing, becuase that's quite a big part of the set up questions, and ties back to one of the cores moves - Influence. There's a single core move for fighting, and two-three for exploring the strange, so the focus of the game is clear there, but the support for the small colony politics side of things isn't supported in the skills (or specialities.)
Come to that, the explorer aspect isn't supported in the specialities either -  Arrvial had a translator and a physist as the two specialists :)).

I guess that's why it felt weirdly off balance thematicly. I hear you on the stat-per-move is much less mental space than stat + move.
Is this intended for one shots or long term play?

Theme wise, I'm not sure if this is supposed to focus on movies like Solaris, Sphere and Alien(s) or is supposed to fall in to colonising a new world/construct with all the politics of an colony like Eden or Stargate Universe. If the latter, it's still very Mill-spec in form.

Horror, trippy or both? It seems to lean strongly towards horror settings, but not support it much. Agenda and principles would help clear it up. Any chance of a GM playbook to help the GM keep on theme?

Mechanics wise - Roll+Stat+advantage basically quadruples the mental energy needed per roll. Needs playtesting. The wording almost brings you back to fiction after - where you roll to see what you do. I don't know if this is intentional or just an emergent thing with the milspec taking me back to dungeon-delving-in-space

Straight Arthurian or will people of mixed race or other races have access to other storytelling spirits?

The link in the first post will always point to the latest document.

Typed up the next few playbooks at first draft status:

What sort of game do you all want? Talk amongst yourselves.
Want to smash stuff? try the Brute
Want to hold a lot of keys and blackmail other players? try the Creep
Want to play as a formidable threat? try the Undead
Want to play a bunch of characters with sadistic glee? Try the Horde
Want to explore separation and back story? Try the Beast
Want to play a quieter support role? Try the Construct

Still to come:
Magus, Dregs, Hybrid, Plant, Fey, Host, Elemental Ooze

---
Things I'd love specific feedback on:
1) are the moves too long and wordy? Would they slow the game too much?
2) any ideas or preferences for names and appearances for playbooks

Fate Spirit of the Century is not pbta at all, but would be an obvious place to start. I wish I'd read it before I ran my own pulp risus game.

---

The closest I came to converting that risus game to AW can be found on the "Her Majesty's Secret Service" tab here:

Premise was the extended royal family, being highly trained and with access* to the magical artifacts of the empire, find their unique abilities in deamand as war threatens in Europe and decadance dances through the upper crust.

Five stats:
magic
military
establishment
socialite
seedy

Playbook ideas were generated from combinations of stats, but that was as far as I took it. I'd love to see your work :)
(*instead of wharehousing them like the americans)

I want to play as:

  • A crazed zealot with a chainsaw and incense implants that means smoke comes out of my ears.

A sister of battle veteran who's devout and pious and has seen some serious shit, so fuck off soldier boy

A petty crook who picked the wrong pocket and now runs scams for the inquisitor

A sanctioned psyker, clutching at his faith to protect him from what his third eye shows him.

A void-born spacer of an imperial guard veteren, who's gift with chemistry gets him into trouble as much as it helps

A paranoid death-worlder who is only calm when in actual danger

A data-specialist sage who hacks instead of slicing.

Escape the Dungeon.

An inverted fantasy dungeon crawler:
In this game you are in a typical fantasy dungeon. The overlord is dead \footnote {citation needed}. You were one of his underlings. You were a monster. You still are, but for the first time in a long time, you're able to ask "Why?" So can all the other underlings.
\smallcaps{What do you do?}

In the current PDF: Agenda, Philosophy, basic moves and the first few playbooks.
Still to do - rest of playbooks, GM playbook(s),  and playtests. Hoping for harsh critisim and warnings of sufferings.
