Apocalypse World / Re: Most and least popular playbooks?
« on: June 15, 2011, 08:56:09 AM »
My group started out with Brainer, Battlebabe, Skinner, Gunlugger, Driver, and Operator.  The Operator dropped out in the middle of the first session because he decided the stakes weren't high enough for him.  The Driver's having issues with the MC, so he's gone too.  The Skinner's player added a Savvyhead; the Gunlugger is thinking of switching to Hardholder; we've recently picked up a Quarantine.

Everyone who sees the Quarantine, by the way, thinks it's awesome, and a couple of people have liked the Touchstone too.  No one in my group seems compelled by the Faceless or Hoarder.

Brain waves while in the car:

The Alien: Obviously the touchstone here is Roswell, but consider also Escape to Witch Mountain, Starman, and the recent The Event.

The Hunter (/Slayer/Guardian): Your whole schtick is making sure the monsters don't get out of line and killing them if they do, but some of them--ok, that one in particular--are so sexy...

The Psion: May overlap with the Cassandra a bit, but someone who's mostly a mundane except for some weird power or other.  The classics are telepathy and prophetic visions, but there's also psychometry, telekinesis, and so forth.  Much opportunity for Psychic Nosebleeds.  Think Willow before her full-blown witchiness, or Sam from Supernatural.

The Construct.  Sort of fits in with the Hollow, but not-real happens in a different way.  See: the Buffy-bot, Galatea, Frankenstein's Monster.

"You were made to be something for someone, and now that someone is gone.  You're supposed to be the perfect daughter, the all-star valedictorian, the boyfriend who would never hurt her, and you did the best you could.  Something bad happened, though, and maybe it was your fault, and maybe you were cast out or maybe your creator is just...gone.  Either way, you were made to complete someone and without that someone, well, you're just going to have to find someone else to complete."

The fact that it gets everyone except you is what makes it *awesome*.

I have the feeling I'm supposed to have a rough idea of what those PDFs contain, and I don't.

when you get what you want, sexually, carry 1 forward.

If what you want sexually is abstinence?

Make sure your true love has a really good reason to want sex.

A few rambling thoughts, because I love this setting idea.

Rope shouldn't be +hand, it should be +arm.  Making something should be +hand.

When you've killed something you were hunting, roll (something).  On a 10+, you killed it right here and it drops; proceed to the butchering.  On a 7-9, choose 2; on a miss, choose 1 or the MC may offer you a hard choice:
-You don't have to chase it far
-It doesn't do any damage to you before it dies
-Nothing else finds it before you catch up

When you gather outside your normal territory, roll +eye.  On a 10+, choose 3; on a 7-9, choose 1.
-You find a whole lot of something
-You find something especially valuable or nutritious
-It's within easy distance of camp
-It won't go bad quickly

the nerve core / Quarantine?

So I donated to Shock: Human Contact a while ago, and I was wondering how the getting of the Quarantine playbook happens, because it seems to me some people have it already.  I am probably dense about how it works, because I tend to be in this sort of situation.

I'd love to look through it; I haven't watched any Supernatural, but I love Buffy and Fringe.

I just wanted to mention, I think the move should just be called "Screw the Three Laws".  Shorter, punchier, and seriously, who has to ask "Which Three Laws?" given this setup?

You know, I think I read through the Drifter three times before I noticed there was no list of names.  That's just too awesome.

Human Contact sounds cool, but I really just want the Quarantine. :)
