Then just add Messy if it seems right for you!

The rules are guidelines, not traffic rules where you might die if you do something wrong.

Yeah, I know, but the rules in the book are GOOD guidelines, so it's kind of annoying that the site requires fiddling about to conform to them. :)

It also doesn't append the Messy tag where it should.

I'm loving the online monster-maker, but I can't help but notice that it doesn't seem to handle damage dice properly... it always steps up, never down, and it doesn't seem to be able to do worst of two dice, where it should....

Dungeon World / Getting more copies of Dungeon World
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:13:59 AM »
So, say I was living in the ass end of the planet, where friendly local gaming stores are unlikely to acquire copies of DW (i.e. I live in Australia).

And say also that I have a friend who was not aware of the awesome that was DW in time to be involved in the kickstarter, and would love a book to have during games, rather than just the PDF...

...how would I go about getting such a present for my friend?

Dungeon World / Re: Artillerist Class (first draft)

the increased gun damage could be either a starting move, in which case a diligent multi-classer can take it... or perhaps it's just their damage dice. While every other class does d6 or d10 or whatever, the Gunslinger does "D6 (+d4 with a gun)" or similar.

mine arrived, and I live in rural Victoria.

Dungeon World / I have the book! ...and an Idea.
« on: February 21, 2013, 08:06:11 AM »
My copy of dungeon world arrived today. Huzzah! Ironic that my first campaign of it ended yesterday, but I have a new one starting up in two weeks, so it's all good.

But while flicking through randomly, something occured to me. The 16 pages given over to thank the kickstarter backers, in addition to being a lovely thanks, and a good ego boost for those named, can be used.

The backers, in effect, are like ten pages of name list to pick from, and the words of those Bonded to the Book are like a stream or prophecies and visions and concepts to be mined.

How awesome is that? Even the thanks section of the book is a GMing asset!

Dungeon World / Re: Healing and the need for it
« on: February 11, 2013, 06:02:02 PM »
it's really not mandatory. My party doesn't have a cleric, and even though the Wizard learned CUre Light Wounds, he only prepares it half the time. Camping and herbs/bandages do most of the work. Having a healer in the party mostly just changes the playstyle a smidge.

Note, EVERY PC-power healing effect involves a roll, so in a way, character-induced healing is a gamble.

Dungeon World / Re: [Draft] New Class: The Noble
« on: February 10, 2013, 10:16:34 AM »
No, I don't have the DW font. I used my own template to make the sheet, not the one you made. I ended up removing the Game of Thrones move because it's kind of terrible and pointless - if you want to improve your station in life as a Noble, that's something you can just do during play. It doesn't need a move, just go topple over a king somewhere.

Yeah, I agree about the Jockey/Game of Thrones move. I just missed the name. I love the Anything You Can Do... move!

I really like how evocative this class is! However, I found that some of the moves were a bit boring, especially among the advances, and I had a player interested in playing as The Noble. So I ended up doing a pretty major rewrite of the class, and figured I should share it.

Click here to download the playbook for The Noble!

Hey cool... I notice you used my take on the original take on the rules. I like the new moves, although I kind of miss having Game of Thrones move around, just for the name :p

Also, for whatever reason, the nice DW-esque font hasn't Imbedded properly for the larger titles. Was it like that on the version I made?

Dungeon World / Post your Monsters
« on: January 27, 2013, 09:26:00 AM »
I thought a thread for monsters that people have made might be fun.

My first offerings are stolen from/Inspired by one of the DLC campaigns of Orcs Must Die 2 (one of my favourite computer games)

Volcanic Hulk
(Solitary, large, magical, construct) 24 hp, 4 armour
Red-hot fists of stone (d10+2, close, reach, forceful, messy, 1 piercing

Some would call this an elemental, but it's form is not pure enough for that to truly be the case. Made by some wizard or otherworldly power, the Volcanic Hulk is a lumbering beast of rock, given life by trapped fire spirits.

Instinct: to crush and burn

Moves:
-lumber forward without pause
-pound an obstacle to pieces
-on death, to split into a swarm of flamelings

Flamelings
(horde, small, magical, amorphous) 10 hp, 1 armour
Flaming death throes (b[2d6]+2, close

Spirits of fire, Flamelings seek only to consume - themselves, and everything around them.

Instinct: to burn

Moves:
-live fast
-die young
-leave the flaming corpses of their victims

Dungeon World / Re: Bargains with Death?
« on: January 22, 2013, 05:13:46 AM »
Another pre-prepared Bargain, this time for the wizard who started out as the gandalf-archetype, all about subtly putting things in place so that things would happen the way he wanted, and who has recently just taken to fireballing things. Death will remind him that his fate was to manipulate the fates of others, not to take what he wants and burn those who oppose him.

He will be returned to life with the Domino Effect move from the fortune-teller (see elsewhere on this forum), but if he ever directly harms another being with his magic, he will die.

That's nice! Can you actually imagine her choosing the Halfling afterlife?

(The following note might not be relevant to this particular case, but is worth bearing in mind generally...)

The best Bargains with Death make the player seriously think about their character and the choice.

Well, the thing is, she has no memory of her halfling family, and dearly loves her adopted dwarven sister (who is the party fighter). So I feel that maybe the halfling afterlife wouldn't be good enough for her.
