Dungeon World / Re: How to make a bad guy really challenging?

If it's one BBEG against all your players, you are always going to have trouble. I usually throw a bunch of small enemies along with the big guy. It has the same affect of making the players defy danger before they get to attack.

What demon isn't going to have a bunch of minions around to do his bidding. What is a vampire lord without his thralls.

My group has played it as you cant heal yourself - you cant be your own ally.

However, the table should decide - you are all telling the story together.

Dungeon World / Re: Ran DW with Younger Kids and..

I ran a game for 4 kids aged 8-10 and had a very similar experience. The shyest youngest one eventually turned into the most active. It was great.

But just like you were seeing, it was overshadowing the other players. I slowed her down a little with dice.

"OK that sounds like you attack with your sword, roll 2d6 and lets see what happens." With anything but a 10+ I can involve the other kids at the table.

Dungeon World / GenCon - Anyone Submitting DW Games?
« on: February 08, 2013, 01:17:50 PM »
I have submitted a Dungeon World Game for GenCon, based on the Monster Hunters International series of books - Monster Hunters of the Kingdom. It is a fantasy based interpretation.

Was wondering if anyone else was thinking of running Dungeon World at GenCon this summer.

Excellent advice - thank you.

I think converting my own thought process is so far the hardest part of Dungeon World.

Dungeon World / Bard Class - Arcane Arts - Healing Question
« on: February 01, 2013, 02:42:43 PM »
I have a new campaign, and just added a new player that took the Bard class.

After a combat he was using the Arcane Arts move to heal other PCs (they don't have a cleric).

With no real restrictions out of combat (no real time pressures - no one trying to kill him) if he fails his roll (6-) it seemed like there was no real consequence, and so he turned into a healing machine.

I am wondering how other GMs have put restrictions or used narrative ideas in a context like this.

Or, does it matter - just let the PCs get their hit points back. Maybe make the Bard roll once, and use that as an overall success/failure/consequence check against the Bard's actions.

All help appreciated
