My group will play this for the first time and I would like to ask you folks:

1. Any tips or best practices for running the game today ? (Besides the awesome ones already given in this thread ) ?

2. Is there a newer version than 2.5 ? This is the only one I've managed to find.

About the lack of a comma-tech as pointed above, I kinda agree. Though I imagine it would be simply a case of picking the Synthetic hacking move for your Trooper.

I for one am not really interested in the new edition from what I've seen of the previews. The basic moves and stats were awesome because they simplified and streamlined so much. Making them more complicated is a step backwards IMO.

Exactly my thoughts.

Well, at least we will have a lot of new peripheral moves at our disposal to use in 1st edition. :)

I couldnt disagree more. Dungeon World and Apocalypse World are different beasts, and feeding rules from one into the other doesnt make sense.

IMHO, of course.

Wow a flare gun is an awesome idea! I just dont know what to do it gear-wise. xD Perhaps swapping the sawed-off for it ?

Aaaaand new version is up: :-D

Tuned down the overall weirdness by taking out both the augury artifact and the Places speak move; Pathfinder gives advanced read a sitch (for reading terrains/locations) with the advanced rules added to the frontpage. Also, replaced the advancement option "get a gang (detail) and leadership" by "pick another nomad gear", as this puts more emphasis on this being a loner and gear-dependent arquetype. I think this is a pretty tight version of the playbook, which I like.

Makes sense for me. Thanks folks. ;-)

*Exactly* what Rubberduck said. ;-)

About the proposed Pathfinder, I dont know, feels kinda fiddly to me. Ill give it some more thought. *EDIT* Ok, how about this..

Pathfinder: when you use read a sitch to scout a landscape, terrain or location, it counts as advanced.

As per AW book, the advanced version of read a sitch allows you to ask any question you want, not limited to the options listed, if you roll 12+. At first it may seem like a timid improvement, but its not, specially if you remember you can ANY QUESTION YOU WANT, from "how can I pass undetected through this" or "what does that synbarite guard craves?" or even "WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON TO STEP IN THIS SOIL AND WHERE DID HE GO ?". Yeah, shit can get powerful pretty fast, depending only on player creativity. So do we have a winner or not ? ;-D

Ebok:  having Somewhere out There would obfuscate the Tribal, I think, while dissolving the Runner essence. But you have a point about In the Zone. It feels like filler. Suggestions welcome. Perhaps taking it out and increasing the gear options (together with more gear as advancements) ? This would make the character definitely gear-based. (perhaps getting a animal sidekick back, like a dog or a monkey ?)

If I seize by force another characters sex, does our special/sex moves activate as normal ? Does consent factors in on the activation of sex moves ?

Just curious. Ive played the game a lot but this never came up during our sessions.

Oh, the idea is a reference to the Stalker fiction (book, film, videogame), where the protagonists are scavengers hunting for anomalous artifacts which possess weird supernatural effects. Augury was the weirder effect I could find for a AW version of the artifacts.

But yeah, I'm considering taking it out. It would make the Nomad Gear section tighter.

Rubberduck, it breaks my heart to leave Pathfinder out too, but Ebok points make sense. If you find another way to save the move, lemme know. Hmmm.. what if its bonus are +2 ongoing instead of forward ? Do you think it could work ?

And I like the idea of letting bolthole with just two options (oddments or med supplies) and separating the strange artifact into its own nomad gear option. But doing so would mean a portable augury device, which sounds overpowered to me. (the one from savvyhead is immobile, and the hocus followers are not exactly portable). What do you think ?

About the Scavenger +1barter, its meant as both - if you only pick this option, it means an oddment worth 1-barter, and if you pick it together with, say, a hi-tech object, it means this thing is worth 1 barter more (for a total of 2-barter or more, depending on the hi-tech object).

Thinking again, I ended up doing more or less as Ebok suggested: cutted out the Pathfinder move (now you get Scavenger and another of your choice), and giving the option to get any 3 nomad gear (instead of bolthole +2).

New version (and probrably last, as I will be focused on a real life project for the next month): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByF9qkt14FlUYUpkaGhWR1QwZ2s/view?usp=sharing

Thanks for the help, folks!

You have a point, though I would like to keep the move in some way because I feel its nicely thematic. What about this, then:

Pathfinder: when you use read a sitch to scout a terrain, landscape or location, roll +sharp. On a hit, get an extra +1 forward to act on the MC answers.

This way it improves on the normal read a sitch, while also being cumulative with moves like Perfect Instincts if the character so chooses.

*edit* oh an its still cumulative with the maps gear option, effectively giving a +3 forward total bonus if the two are used together. Hmmm, this sound somewhat overpowered to me. Perhaps going back to the maps gear giving Somewhere out there instead of +1forward... or simply cutting out the maps option altogether ?

About In the Zone, its a simple matter of going back to plain act under fire with +sharp then, just like the Driver one (there are other moves that get duplicated on other playbooks so its not really a problem, right ?)

I think Ive found a mid-term regarding the "act under fire with +sharp" vs "sharp+1". Also, the new Places speak..

In the Zone: when you act under fire, roll +sharp instead of +cool, but only while out on dangerous terrain.

Places speak: When you're out there communing with a dangerous terrain, roll +weird. On 10+, both. On 7-9 choose 1. On a miss, the terrain tries to expurge you: take ?-harm.

• you catch a glimpse of this place in the recent past: who lives here now and what emotion they evoke ?

Feedback appreciated. ;)

*edit*: oh and I took the maps out of the bolthole and inserted medical supplies in its place. In the end I let the strange artifact in the bolthole as a portable augury device seems overpowered.
