Dungeon World / Re: Custom Class: The Binder
« on: May 25, 2014, 01:11:25 AM »
Thanks John!

I think the tiefling racial move is great. I'm not a huge fan of the elf and human moves - in particular, I think the human move could reflect daring in a more interesting way. What if they modified Friends on the Other Side, so you can make a deal with a great and terrible entity instead of whichever vestige you happen to be bound to?

Also I'd recommend putting the vestiges after the advanced moves.

I love the microfiction that comes with each vestige. That was the best part of Tome of Magic and it's a real strength with your stuff too.

You might also want to check out an alternative approach: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/109748/Vestige-Magic-Moves-and-Compendium-Classes-for-Dungeon-World

I hope you consider submitting this class to Grim Portents once you've finished it!

Interesting concept, and I like that you've clearly distinguished it from the warlock and wizard in terms of how they access their powers. However, I find that font (particularly the all-caps, but also the size of the font) almost unreadable - if you change it to Arial or Times New Roman 12 point I'll give it a read.

The second issue of the Dungeon World/Powered by the Apocalypse fan e-zine Grim Portents is available for download from the Grim Portents website! Explore the Wine-Dark Sea, face off against a hydrodaemon, establish your own tavern and generate a secret spy organisation.

Thank you to everyone who contributed articles, illustrations and feedback – and a particular thanks to Jonathan Walton for his cover design and herculean layout job.

All articles are under free and open Creative Commons licences.

If you’ve written anything for Dungeon World, World of Dungeons or other Powered by the Apocalypse games, we’d be very interested to publish it. First, submit it to sanglorian@gmail.com (or read the submissions page for guidance). We’ll post it on the blog within a week or two, and then when we have enough content we’ll compile it into Grim Portents issue 3.

We're also always interested in artworks.

There is a theme, “The Thaw”, but that’s for inspiration – it’s not required!

All submissions must be licensed under Creative Commons Attribution, Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike, or CC0 (a public domain licence).

It seemed to work fine for Sigurd.

While I pretty much agree with those who talk about literary monsters being defeated in one or two blows (Bard and Smurg, for example), I would point out that a tabletop game with a team of four or five characters needs slightly different pacing to a book where all attention is on one protagonist making that single, fateful blow.

Maybe 16 HP is still enough; if it's not, my ballpark figure would be HP equal to the combined average damage of each character.

Dungeon World / Re: The Elemental Monk - feedback please

Race
Elf: Your natural grace gives you +1 to the Wind Flows Over the Water and Wind Flies Over the Mountain moves
Halfling: When you Defy Danger and use your small size to advantage, take +1
Human: You are naturally aggressive; take +1 Forward on your first move in combat

I think you could spice up the racial moves. In particular, the human move could be something that encourages aggression, rather than just something that reflects it.

Otherwise, looks interesting.

Thanks Arvid, I had a chance to look over it in more detail and I've made some comments - mostly about the expression, rather than the rules.

Rust makes me want to play a very strong, very large Wizard who can lift vehicles, golems and so on!

Thanks for your thoughts, both of you. Jonatan, I noticed your post on Something Awful and was surprised no one really picked you up on it. I like the characterisation as 'generic on both ends'.

Hi folks,

With issue 2 nearing completion, I'm closing written submissions for issue 3 on the 24th of June.

We already have about a half dozen articles submitted. If you'd like to illustrate one of them, please get in touch (your deadline will be later than the 24th).

Interesting stuff - I was just thinking the other day that we haven't seen nearly enough new spells and alternative spell lists. Out of curiosity, why did you decide to convert from the Mage to the Wizard?

Thanks! And it's worth mentioning that there's an art-free CC BY version here: http://fossilbank.wikidot.com/work:number-appearing

This is awesome. It has been backed!

I am wondering if there is a way to contact the authors privately through e-mail or some such?

Hey Shenron,

On the Kickstarter page there's an option to contact the creators. Would that work?

A stretch goal would be great! Thanks for your reply

I'd appreciate if you didn't start pirating out the playbooks before the kickstarter is even in its second day. We are considering putting the playbooks on creative commons, but the entire book will not be. It is fine to share it with your friends, and you can share the previews as widely as you like, but I'd like to keep the full versions of the playbooks available mainly to backers.

Hey gnome7, maybe there was a miscommunication. I wasn't planning to share the playbooks. What I meant is that if the final version were going to be released under certain Creative Commons licences, then I could have advertised that fact to the free culture community so they can back the project too.

Dungeon World / Submissions open for Grim Portents issue 3: 'The Thaw'
« on: April 29, 2013, 08:57:02 PM »
Since you have all kindly given me a long list of potential themes, and submissions for GP issue 2 are now closed, I thought that I should release the theme for issue 3 so you can start working on your submissions.

Feel free to email me your submission when you're happy with it. At a later date, I'll declare when submissions will close. This might be a while, as it's coming up to university exams.

The theme? 'The Thaw'. I thought it had a nice symmetry with The Dead of Winter.

Of course, you don't have to write to the theme, and you are welcome to submit something that you have already shared/published elsewhere.
