Apocalypse World / Re: Babies

it was that everyone didn't wash their hands. They didnt use soap after seeing one patient, before seeing another. That was the reason that the child mortality rate was so high and was as the reinfection rate.

Yes as humans we are a "tuff" speices but, you have so many variables that would come into play.

Variables could be

Healthy ( is she gaining weight? 25-35 is the norm)
What is she eating? (Pica?)
rest, sleep and fatigue or the lack of.
sperm count of the male?
is she ovulating? (hours of opportunity )
Good hygiene!
allergies ?? (food, sperm, ?)

funny as men, we always look to the woman and say that it's her fault if anything goes wrong.

just for males to be "active" shouldn't mean anything
maybe we should look at variables of the male as well.

Erection (blood flow)
orgasm (ejaculation)
weight
health?
attractiveness

but I digress...
" So the question there is, is your Apocalypse World a desolate, dry place with few people, or a crowded, wet festering place where disease can take hold? "  either way, it looks bad for the "home" team

just some thoughts.....

Happy Holidays to all

I have a question.... can it be mobile like a bus, Semi-rig with a flatbed or a reffer?. I know that a driver gets a vehicle so isn't it the same but the holder has better stats?

Apocalypse World / Re: Why are grenades at hand range?
« on: December 16, 2010, 07:47:20 PM »
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF
HAND GRENADES

The RANGE of hand grenades, in relation to other weapons, is very short. This range depends entirely on the throwing ability of each individual. You should be able to throw a grenade, such as the M67 fragmentation grenade, about 35 to 40 meters.

The EFFECTIVE CASUALTY RADIUS of a hand grenade is defined as the radius of a circular area around the point of detonation within which at least 50 percent of the exposed personnel become casualties. The radius is about 16.5 yards (15 meters). This radius is small compared to the effective casualty radius of the other weapons, such as the 60-mm mortar. You must remember, however, that casualties can and do occur at distances much greater than the so-called effective casualty radius.

so remember the hand grenade is thrown by hand; therefore, the range is short and the casualty radius is small. Hand grenades are used to supplement small arms against an enemy in close  combat, as a riot control agent, for smoke screening and signaling, and for incendiary purposes, hence the reason that it is used as a DEFENSIVE weapon and not as a offensive weapon normally.

Messy assumes area, though, doesn't it?  It may or may not hit anyone in the area?  If you already have area, messy is a downgrade.

I think messy is just one of those tags the MC has to use for descriptions. If it's messy, it's going to leave a big mess of blood, guts and brain matter.

Like, a pain-wave projector isn't messy, but it's area.

I disagree, if the explosive can be a "shaped charge" then it wouldn't be messy and more effective.

what about the pre natal care, stress, folic acid, 30 mg of iron every day and I can think of a whole bunch of crap that would be needed for a health baby.

the calorie requirements are a plain nightmare in just dealing with third world countries.

In the game we've just started, it's S&H Green Stamps.  100 stamps is 1 barter in the hardholds, so a page with 50 stamps on each side is worth 1 barter.

Exactly how this came to pass is yet to be explored.

OMG... I remember them a kid!
