Why bother healing everyone when you can just point them towards:

Make Camp
When you settle in to rest consume a ration. If you’re somewhere dangerous decide the watch order as well. If you have enough XP you may level up. When you wake from at least a few uninterrupted hours of sleep heal damage equal to half your max HP.

It has a lot less inherent risk than just casting spells, the few hours could be a couple or more, and the end result is half hp for everyone. it costs a ration, sure, but it is a ration for each person as an exchange for not rolling all those spells, and if they still feel they need more, than they can cast a few spells.

Dungeon World / Re: Shapeshifting animist is a poor substitute for Druid
« on: February 18, 2013, 01:16:22 PM »
I have a druid in my game and he is the same in this thread, solving everything with shapeshift, but also he is turning into animals in a wild frenzy between actions he decides to take in the combat. All this is cool to me, if i didn't want someone morphing into the most fitting form to solve problems I would not have presented the Druid playbook at the table.

What was a minor concern was how shifting a lot during combat was putting more of a spotlight on him than in everyone else, thus on his first failure he wasn't able to shift any more during that scene, i told him the spirits refused to aid him. After combat he talked with the spirits and they considered him to be too far removed from their needs, as a result they required him to pray in 3 different shrines in the world, I went ahead and told the player that he could transform again, but at every session he would have to actively move towards the goal they set for him.

I didn't even set the consequences for not trying to get to the shrines. This was (to me) a show a downside of the class (i.e. it relies on the spirits).

And as someone else pointed out, the Druid's forms allow him to bypass obstacles, the remaining characters are stuck with it, though, and the druid just gave you a free move: separate them.

I would not punish any character for outsmarting an obstacle, the druid merely creates a fast and easy way to do that, meaning I need obstacles that are actually defying the druid, or that simply require more than one person to overcome them.

Dungeon World / Re: Can a Paladin use “Lay on hands” on himself?
« on: January 23, 2013, 09:58:41 AM »
I would believe no, for the reason that lay on hands seem to lend itself to the selfless nature of the paladin, thus it is meant to help others, the paladin himself can't be healed, furthermore if he could he would invalidate ALL 7-9 and not only those used on himself, since he could just use it on himself until he got a 10+.

You could get an advanced move where the paladin heals himself in a 10+ in addition to its usual effects.

You could expand on whatever is already happening around them, give them the moments they need but tighten the security of intelligent creatures, put a new room up ahead with a new challenge, if theya re after a strong magical opponent the casting draws its attention from afar, and the cleric sees that gaze upon him, there is a LOT you can do there.

What I feel you may need to keep in mind when choosing a move is: "Think offscreen too".

I say because that has helped me immensely in two mere sessions.

Dungeon World / Re: DW Play Report...or, Why This Game is Awesome (LONG)

This smells of awesome everywhere! What are your plans towards the evil/good scheme with the dragon and General Stonecore?

And how did they feel about the game and the in-fighting?

It is obvious, but is not how many systems work, so that is probably why.

Mr. John Harper is working on a freely available version, also he wants to give it sometime for the backers to have it exclusively before releasing it to the public, so I wouldn't expect it to be available before the print versions of DW are on the backer's hands and would even give it a couple of months before it could show up.

if you are talking about the alternate playbooks, those don't use spell lists, they can do whatever is within their respective choices.

Evenglare, between this forum and Google+ you probably can throw ideas around and refine them with the feedback received, there are quite a few good things hidden inside this very forum, for example.

Whenever I have been in doubt about a particular rules term, or a player has been, I turn the question back at them. Worked like a charm so far.

Dungeon World / Re: Bargains with Death?
« on: January 09, 2013, 06:39:26 PM »
- Hedonistic Bard, always looking for cheap thrills and pleasures of the flesh: "You sought to 'live life to it's fullest', yet here you are. Obviously you were doing it wrong. If you wish, you may return to life and try again. Perhaps you just didn't live hard enough. So your desires shall be multiplied five-fold. You will need to eat five times as much to feel full. You will need to drink five times as much to slake your thirst. And as for pleasures of the flesh, well let us hope you can hire a whole team and schedule a day or two to get any real satisfaction or release."

All of them gave me this feeling, but this one in particular: Read it hearing John Kramer's (Jigsaw) voice, from the Saw movies. Jeez now my version of death will just have to start the first last breath bargain with:

"I want to play a game..."

I will wait patiently, I have the deepest respect to all backers, they made DW available to me (since I only found about it when it was already on sale in Drivethrurpg).

Yet I hope they are as happy to share the good things they have (because I sure want them all).
