This should be a supplemental PDF somewhere (similar to many playbooks). Hugely informative and useful to beginners!

Heard of the Story Games Names Project? There's an app for that! :)

other lumpley games / Re: What does it mean to say "yes"?
« on: July 20, 2015, 01:48:52 PM »
The whole DitV quote/rule is "Say Yes or roll dice." The direct implication is that you can't--as GM--just block a player's assertion or attempted action. It also covers the implication that, if you as GM don't have an active reason to prevent the player's assertion, just go ahead and default to saying yes (a tradition emerged in some RPGs of "if it's not in the rules, it can't be done" and I think Vincent was pushing against that 'lame' and passive approach).

I have also heard of the improv 'rule' called "Yes And" which is a shorthand for the general improv etiquette that you don't contradict, block, or ignore another participant's contributions.

It seems from that blog post that you've adopted the more-expansive interpretation from improv over the rather-specific policy in DitV that is a guide for being a proper GM for the game.

But I could be totally mis-recalling or mis-interpreting intentions (of you and/or VB). :}

Lookin' good... but the pedant and motorcyclist in me feels obliged to point out that most motorcycles have twist throttles on the right-hand grip. But you can just flip the image horizontally (except the words) and, BAM, she's swinging left-handed while handling that throttle.

I agree with pretty much everything Daniel Wood said. :)

One extension, RE playbooks 'not fitting' after you've played TQY: You could always have folks use Contempt to signal vetoing of an addition that would obliterate the validity of a playbook (or spend Contempt to push a playbook back into viability with a Personal Project). HEll, it's a 'better' use of Contempt than in TQY as written! ;)

Totally great idea... if one of you AW players wants to be a hardholder. TQY is so much about 'building a community' that it wouuld sort of suck to abandon that built community for the wider, vaguer world in which it is embedded. In that useage, TQY is basically just a brainstorming tool... which isn't a bad thing, but the awesome map you just finished is a great focusing element you don't want to chuck aside.

I demo TQY a few times and, boy, does it get varied in convention play! One of our games in no way coulod have gone on to be a setting: The Frost Shepards were the final dissolution of a planet in a massive gass band (think Larry Niven's The Smoke Ring meets Gorillaz videos). Definitely apocalyptic... but also terminal, barring some kind of wild incluion of Lady Blackbird setting elements (airships; complex navigation).

My final point would be to ask if TQY is setting up the apocalypse or is it already post-apocalypse? That seems impoprtant for players to agree upon at the onset. Likewise, will TQQY characters transition into the AW characters, or are they simply ancestor, or are they Legends... or completely forgotten?

[This reminds of threeads about How To Host a Dungeon setting up a dungeon-crawl game... but that is another message board!]

No "Let It Ride" in DW?

I like this post--not something I ever really considered or internalized, from the "throwaway" description of the apocalypse!
Gives one a perspective on general moods/natures of folks based on age, which *should* inform role-playing (it will for me, henceforth).

Quote
An item can sustain up to -2ongoing before becoming useless junk.
Does this mean "At -3ongoing, an item becomes useless junk"? Verbiage is a little unclear.

For any game that used a d6, I found out about Doublesix Dice ... Do such dice seem like a good idea/investment or a stupid one?
Well, I just backed at the $10 Fudge level, and I'm getting 24 dice for that. I don't think you can beat that deal anywhere. 12 fudge dice and 12 double-d6 is worth that, for sure. (I needed Fudge dice anyway; and I've been THIS close to buying some almost every weekend at the game store.)
