Thanks, all.  I reread the rules for the move, and it does say for a miss "to take one hold, and whatever the GM tells you".  I now understand that last part as a cue for a hard move.

Thanks for the great help!

You already rolled the dice in the first place just to perform the shapeshift, so there's no need to roll again.

Right.  So, at worst, the druid gets one hold.  Can they then use that hold, shapeshift again, and instantly gain more holds?

Could someone think of a situation "in the fiction" where this could not happen?  It just doesn't seem like there's any way to throw hard moves at the druid (directly, anyway).

Am I making sense?

Thanks again for the help.

Hey, everyone,

When a druid uses the shapeshifting move, they roll for the number of holds they get.  The GM gives them moves associated with that animal, and they spend a hold to do them.  Is the move an automatic success?  No dice rolling?

My 15 year-old son and druid player is stressed! Help! :)

Thanks,

Chris

I'm creating a DW setting where desperate, ambitious adventurers buy purchase aboard filth-ridden ships to sail the dark, tempestuous seas to try their luck in the Old World: a vast continent, filled with the monster-infested, treasure-laden ruins of the ancient God-Kings.  The adventurers are a mix of Gold Rush prospectors and conquistadors.

Here are some elements I'm thinking of:

-Adventurers "staking out" a dungeon, and claiming it against competing adventurers.
-Down-on-their-luck bandits robbing other adventurers as they leave a dungeon.
-I want a cynical feel to the setting, which matches the classic adventurer's agenda of killing and looting.

So, do you have any "world moves" that might help bring the setting to life?

Thanks!
