Apocalypse World / Re: Firefly -> Apocalypse World?
« on: February 12, 2012, 10:56:30 PM »
Hmmmm. That's a pretty cryptic answer. If Wash is the Driver, he'd get -1HX every time he and Zoe had sex, unless she was the Battlebabe, which would nullify his -1. That makes sense. If Zoe were a Gunlugger, they'd have to have 10 sex every time for them not to lose HX... also not impossible, considering ;)

Your explanations make sense. I guess I can see it both ways. Zoe is loyal, which is suggested to be by the dog names (and to me, Zoe is a dog name). She seems to care about getting the job done. Jayne cares about making a scene, making money, being cool, etc. I would be interested in hearing what Vincent has to say.

I'm still not sold on Zoe as Battlebabe and Jayne as Gunlugger. Whenever Jayne is onscreen, he is either starting trouble or conniving. That seems more Battlebabe-ish to me. Zoe is all about just doing her job, being stolid. Yes, she's more stylish because she's a beautiful woman kicking ass and Jayne is a moronic oaf, but I think in personality, she suits the Gunlugger more. JMO, would be interested in hearing other opinions.

The reason I said Book was an Operator is his backstory, where he's a double agent, has a fake identity, etc. The whole Shepard Book persona is a front for him. But if you assume he is transformed now, I guess Touchstone could work (I am not all that familiar with that book, having just received it yesterday). Mal as Operator could work, but is Hardholder out of the question for him?

Apocalypse World / Firefly -> Apocalypse World?
« on: February 12, 2012, 12:54:50 PM »
My players have been asking for examples of each of the playbooks, and I also happen to be rewatching Firefly, so I was trying to categorize each of the characters on Serenity into AW playbooks. Apologies if this has been done here before. I did a search and nothing definitive came up on this topic.

Mal Reynolds = Hardholder (this was the toughest one for me to figure out and the one I'm least confident is accurate)
Zoe = Gunlugger
Wash = Driver
Jayne = Battlebabe
River = Brainer
Simon = Angel
Inara = Skinner
Book = Operator
Kaylee = Savvyhead

My rationale for Zoe being the gunlugger and Jayne the battlebabe is that Zoe seems to be the model of competence, while Jayne stirs up trouble and mayhem wherever he goes.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and please explain why you think so. I think this will help me solidify my understanding of the playbooks.

I have received the playbooks! Thanks to everyone who sent PMs. You guys are awesome. If my game gets off the ground, I will write up how it goes and post it here. This is a great community.

Apocalypse World / Maestro D' playbook?
« on: February 11, 2012, 06:42:24 PM »
Hi, it's me again. In working on character concepts, I think the Maestro D' sounds like something a player might be interested in. I don't have the playbook. How can I get it? Thanks for any help.

Apocalypse World / Re: Pirate city?

What if they had, you know, choppers? Like, helicopters? Hedrigall had one in The Scar, a little one-man copter. That would work brilliantly I think.

Can there  be supernatural creatures, like vampires, other races, etc., in Apocalypse World? Can the players play them, or should they be human the exotics are NPCs? Or are there no real parameters as long as the spirit of the game is preserved?

Isn't the bike a major, well-nigh necessary to the Chopper playbook? So wouldn't something have to go in its place? If it's a steampunk world, maybe there are amphibious vehicles they could use? Which could be called choppers, of course. The Drivers could have access to the larger boats.

I was actually thinking that the base city might be large enough for the Chopper to remain largely unchanged. Picture an aircraft carrier, or maybe more than one, lashed together, with auxiliary boats, flotillas of rafts, etc. in ever changing configurations. Some are permanent, many come and go. Could be a sizable enough city to have bikers. The Driver could maybe be converted to the Captain?

Do you foresee any other major glitches with the AW-verse if we make it a water world?

Apocalypse World / Pirate city?
« on: February 06, 2012, 10:11:32 PM »
I have never played or run Apocalypse World before, but may be about to MC for the first time. My players mentioned the idea of a floating pirate city, ala Armada in China Mieville's The Scar. Could this work? What would happen to the Driver play book? Could it be converted to boating, and has this already been done somewhere? A search didn't yield anything. Any thoughts or ideas welcome.
