Apocalypse World / Re: new character playbook: quarantine
« on: October 19, 2010, 10:46:36 AM »
You...you haven't played Fallout?

*boggles*

In the original Fallout, you play a Vault Dweller. When The War happened, your parents entered one of the Vaults that were supposed to serve as a shelter. Then, the doors were locked.

Time passed.

All you have ever known is life in the Vault. But now the water purification system is dying, so you must venture to the surface to locate a replacement chip. Your experience of the outside world is nil.

Here's the intro for the game, which includes the setup for the game. It'll be worth your 3 minutes.

Is this at all like being a Vault Dweller from the Fallout series?

Apocalypse World / Re: Monolithic foreign powers
« on: October 09, 2010, 01:53:38 PM »
Another way to handle these massive armies is simply to establish through both mechanics (especially guns) and fiction (look, there are way more of these people than you) that going up against these outsiders is just a Really Bad Idea. Also, yeah, be sure to make it clear to your players at the beginning that messing with these foreign powers is the best way to encourage you as MC to make a Really Hard Move.

But!

Don't say no. There are no status quos in Apocalypse World, right?

These foreign armies are awe-inspiring in the aggregate. But that patrol of five soldiers that wandered too far from the line? They're just really tough, but I'll bet a savvy group of PCs could take them out. But what of the consequences? Do they *really* want airstrikes on their holding? Of course, do the foreign powers actually know where the PC's holding is? (Were foreign powers ever able to occupy the Bekaa Valley?)

In other words, if the PCs really want to take on the foreign aggressor, let them. It won't be easy, to be sure. But history is replete with examples of guerilla soldiers bleeding a foreign occupying power dry. Why should Apocalypse World be different?

Apocalypse World / Re: Any chance of those updated mini-books?
« on: October 04, 2010, 05:27:17 PM »
I'm starting a new game on Wednesday and I'd really like to have some updated mini-books I could use. Mr Harper's landscape sheets are nice, but lack important information (like Angel kits and some other gear stuff) and there's no such thing as Legal size paper over here in the UK.

If not, we can make do with the old versions which I still have.

FYI, you can scale the legal-sized trifolds down to letter size when printing in Adobe Reader, and they work just fine. So, maybe that would work scaling to A4?

Crystal and I made Apocalypse Corn before watching the Book of Eli.

It was good. Really good.

Personally, I didn't find the spicy to be overwhelming, though my tolerance to such things is admittedly high. (Crystal eventually bailed out.) My youngest son Justice really liked it, too, when he got a chance to try it.

Okay that's weird. In Chrome, I get a blank sheet. In IE, I get the correct sheet. *scratches head*

Hey, I went to download the front sheet at http://www.apocalypse-world.com/frontsheet.pdf and all I get is a blank sheet. Am I missing something here?

Once you have the player’s answer, build on it. I mean three
things by that: (1) barf apocalyptica upon it, by adding detailsand
imagery of your own;

Note the "detailsand" missing a space. This makes the text hyphenate funny, FYI.
