Dungeon World / Re: DW Play Report...or, Why This Game is Awesome (LONG)

That is (a) awesome (b) almost inconceivable in another system. It is the kind of adventure you cannot create beforehand or script.

How did the players feel about the game afterwards?

This is where I would back a step from Dungeon World and hack the Apocalypse World source, which already has gritty, heavily armed archetypes and does not have the adaptations to high fantasy that make DW what it is. There is a storygames thread on this

Dungeon World / Re: Fronts, needed for a one shot dungeon crawl?

It seems as if two dangers are mixed here - the witch and her spell to freeze the area and the demon protal. If you are going to base the adventure on the unleashed demons and the portal, start with the witch already bein dead, they are standing over her corpse as the laughter of her demonic pact-holder rings around them. That makes the front simply the demon prince and his hordes.

Begin and end in the fiction. Moves are allowed and created by the fiction, not the other way round. That is perhaps the single most confusing thing about AW and DW.

If the player goes for the disarm when you say they are "wide open to the wolf" they are ignoring a threat and you get to make a hard move, "the wolf sinks its teeth into your outstretched arm, dragging down your guard, 6HP damage and the orc is sweeping his fist towards your unprotected gut. What do you do?"

If the response was "Forget the disarm, I instead tumble nimbly past them both and backstab the orc" you would be saying "you can probably roll under the orc's swing <defy danger -agility> but chances are wolf will be on you before you get to your feet again, do you want to try that?".
