Title: Discern Realities+WIS & Spout Lore+INT?
Post by: Geistsurfer on February 25, 2016, 03:14:19 PM
Probably this is an old question, but I haven't found the answer: Why is Discern Realities+WIS and Spout Lore+INT? I guess it would be smarter to have it the other way round, as Spout Lore ist about knowledge and Discern Realities about observation/logic?

It sure would, wouldn't it?

It's a relic from (newer versions of) D&D, where Wisdom doesn't really mean wisdom at all, but started being used for rolls to "notice things", instead.

In recent game engines, Wisdom has come to represent how "present in the moment" someone is. It is how free of emotional distraction and mental wheel-spinning a character is.

Someone who is totally "in the now" will notice fine details, spot things that someone more distracted might not, and see the subtle clues in body language that betray intent. It also enables one to be more in touch with the divine - no mental noise is getting between you and your diety, which is why it powers divine magic.

At lest, that's how I see it.
