Hey, so, since the AW book is sort of sparse in terms of useful play aids, I thought it'd be nice to offer a place on the forum for fan-created aids, sheets, and stuff.
Rules for this thread:
- Only post items for unhacked Apocalypse World. If you have new playbooks, post them somewhere else! Your maps, post them somewhere else! We only want stuff that has wide vanilla accessibility here.
- Label your links. Don't just toss up a filename and hope that we know what you mean by it.
- Say how to use your thing!
Suggestions for play aids:
- Use fonts that coordinate with the book. See Johnstone's (abridged) tips and my notes below:
The distressed fonts are VTKS Good Luck For You (S: for covers and titles) and Crust Clean (S: for text headings). Crust Clean doesn't come with punctuation, so Vincent used Dirty Ego for that. All three are available for free at dafont.com.
Consolas is the playbook body text, and Verdana Bold is used for the R Rating and the footers and numbering. Those are both standard fonts that your should have already, or you can get them from the MS website.
The body text in the rulebook is Chaparral Pro, an Adobe font. I believe it comes bundled with certain Adobe programs, but maybe somebody can suggest a free font that is at least passably similar. (S: Consolas is hella ugly and monospaced fonts are completely illegible so you should just use Chaparral for everything)
- It's considerate to use A4 or letter format (8.5in x 11in, for you Europeans) for your sheets so people don't need to buy special paper to use them. (Hey Vincent when do we get decent letter-formatted playbooks?)
- It's smart to label your sheets so it's evident what they're for even if it's not fully clear how they do it.
- PLAYTEST YOUR SHEETS!
I can't stress this enough. Seriously. Make sure you find a couple of people with different handwriting and don't all be architects or something and see if you have left enough space to write stuff down. See if you're forced to reference outside your sheets for things that should be on them. See what's on your sheets that you don't need or care about! Try different approaches before you post something, make sure it's real good.

Here is my Hx Worksheet:
http://thor.divnull.com/pub/aw/hx-worksheet.pdf
Each character gets one Hx Worksheet, and you need the Hx instructions that each playbook has, since there is not space to duplicate that stuff here. Once you have calculated final Hx values you can transfer them to the playbooks of your choice.

I put the moves index from the book online, you can print it out and refer to it at pick-a-move-from-another-playbook time: AW-movesindex.pdf (http://apocalypse-world.com/AW-movesindex.pdf).

I had been working on this so it seemed like the right thread to post it.
A sortable spreadsheet with all the playbook moves listed by stat they use, what basic move they may modify, and what stat they may replace.
(Not so good with forums and posting files, so here's the Google docs version of my xls file)

I just finished a letter-sized form for a Front that is in Acrobat format. This is mainly useful to people like me who have terrible handwriting :)
When you load it with in acrobat reader, you can simply fill in the required fields and then save and/or print it out. Then you can update it in between sessions to always have a fresh and readable version of your front.
Since it's letter sized and not legal, there's not quite as much room, but the neatness of being typed helps that a bit. Also I didn't bother putting anything on the back side, since you can get all that info from the book.
So, it's a trade off, but it works for me, and hopefully will for you.

Flowchart for translating violence into moves:

I don't think it fits all situations, but its a good starting point.

I have taken this moves index (which I love btw) or at least the portion that shows the moves sorted by stat and updated it to include the Faceless, Quarantine, Maestro D', Touchstone and Hoarder. I also threw in the Juggernaut, Freak (aka Grotesque) and the Tribal since those are playbooks my groups commonly use.
I hope no one who made those playbooks minds. If you do please let me know and I will definately remove them from the file.
Enjoy!

Here's a moves sheet with the advanced moves options thrown in. Handy to pass out to players who have started advancing moves so they stop asking you what they can do. :) Enjoy!

I have made a transcript of the one-shot scenario, “Blind-blue & Hatchet City”, in a worldwide apocalypse friendly A4 document.
- OpenDocument format, for editing http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/hatchet-city.odt (http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/hatchet-city.odt)
- PDF format, for printing http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/hatchet-city.pdf (http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/hatchet-city.pdf)
The content is copied from http://lumpley.com/apocalypse/hatchetcity.pdf (http://lumpley.com/apocalypse/hatchetcity.pdf), but made for the rest of the Apocalypse World where we don't use crazy-long paper sizes.
I can't keep those files there indefinitely. Vincent, if you approve, feel free to host these in a more permanent location, under the same terms as any other play aid.

The above documents are now updated (in the same file locations) to use the suggested fonts for headings and titles.

I have transcribed the core rulebooks to worldwide A4 paper size.
- OpenDocument format, for editing: http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/rules-playbooks.odg (http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/rules-playbooks.odg)
- PDF format, for printing: http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/rules-playbooks.pdf (http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/rules-playbooks.pdf)
This contains all the content from the US-only sized rules playbooks, plus a little more where it made sense.
Vincent, please consider hosting these with the official playbooks; I can't host them at the above location indefinitely.

I have transcribed the core character playbooks to worldwide A4 paper size.
- OpenDocument format, for editing: http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/character-playbooks-core.odg
- PDF format, for printing: http://bignose.whitetree.org/tmp/apocalypse-world/character-playbooks-core.pdf
This contains most of the content from the US-only sized core character playbooks; some of the “additional rules” or other things didn't quite fit.
Also included (as the final two pages) is the template I used for each playbook; you can use it to make your own from a running start.
Vincent, please consider hosting these with the official playbooks; I can't host them at the above location indefinitely.

For lack of a better font, I found that Bookman Old Style matches the trifold playbook body text fairly well.

I use a mind map in XMind to track NPCs, vehicles, notes, damage, and such in my AW game. I created a set of icons to go with Apocalypse World:
1) the countdown clock at each iteration
2) miscellaneous post-apocalyptic iconography (fortress, male, female, raider, group, vehicle)
This .xmp file can be imported into XMind so you can use those icons:

Hey, I hacked the random NPC generator from http://www.easpegasus.net/AW_NPC.htm, cleaned up the Javascript, added some more apocalyptica and columns from nilum87's spreadsheet mentioned above (like "follows their [body part]"), and made sure the look, gender, name, etc. and the "follows" and "attitude" columns are all synched with each other.
Here it is: http://benjaminrosenbaum.com/images/AW/npcs.html
-
Awesome, thanks. Could we get an "export to CSV file" button? It would be marvelous, so I could integrate it in my sheets, quickly adding columns like "used" "dead" "facts" etc.
-
Exporting to CSV is a cool idea but a quick google does not reveal that much ready-to-use code to do it -- but if someone wants to hack the javascript for me I'll include it :-)
-
I put together a trifold document base (http://jwokalypseworld.weebly.com/uploads/1/4/1/4/14148728/aw_document_outlines.docx) for creating things like moves sheets or playbooks. The document uses Microsoft word, and functions best in "publishing layout" view. Make sure to get all of the free AW fonts before you download these, otherwise the fonts in the document will reset and get all ugly-like.

I'm building a website, http://apocwords.net (http://apocwords.net), designed to be of service to Apocalypse World MCs, either in prep or in play. The intention is to have it on my tablet browser while I'm running a game, for instant inspiration should I need it.
The Apocalypse World page is at http://www.apocwords.net/systems/apocworld.html (http://www.apocwords.net/systems/apocworld.html). The creatures function isn't live yet, and there are still several functions to be added. Much of that is explained in the development notes page.
There's also robust support from Dungeon World, and I'm adding functionality for Call of Cthulhu games.
If you find the site of any use, or if you have questions, comments or suggestions, please let me know!

For any game that used a d6, I found out about Doublesix Dice (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/916188323/doublesix-dice-roll-better?ref=kickspy) when by looking for soundtrack info for the first Lisa game, stumbling upon the Kickspy page for its spiritual successor, LISA the painful RPG (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/131274701/lisa-the-painful-rpg?ref=kickspy), which barfs forth all sorts of apocalyptica, and seeing Doublesix Dice among the also backed list. Do such dice seem like a good idea/investment or a stupid one?
-
I spent a long time making these character sheet pdfs that you could fill out easily for those who play with laptops. Save the trees, or whatever. Then I forgot to save and I lost them all. No worries though, I hastily made some sloppy ones and they work for us just fine.

Well, I just backed at the $10 Fudge level, and I'm getting 24 dice for that. I don't think you can beat that deal anywhere. 12 fudge dice and 12 double-d6 is worth that, for sure. (I needed Fudge dice anyway; and I've been THIS close to buying some almost every weekend at the game store.)

I made some barter cards for my players and I thought I would share them.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/20414815/Barter%20Cards.pdf
My players had a hard time relating to the 1-barter unit, they just sort of saved them up. So I made a bunch of barter cards, to give them an idea of what a barter could be and ways to use it.
When ever they walk into a marked, not looking for anything in special or they get paid for a gig, I put out a couple of cards (usually 1 or 2 more them what they get paid) and tell them, this is what they got pick what you like.
I also made a couple of stock cards for the Angel, but they aren't a big success, maybe some of you guys have more fun with them. The special crap is stuff I needed for my own game.
-
Really good, Kalle! You have a distinct style that isn't just a copy of the Apocalypse World books, but complements it very well.
I look forward to pushing some of these across the table as we argue excitedly about who gets what :-)
-
I can only take credit for some of the illustrations, a lot of them I got from Fallout. A great game with lovely graphics, so why reinvent the wheel.
I'm considering making weapons cards as well, my players have a tendency to forget the weapon tags, and I think having a card with a picture, description, range and tags in front of them might make a weapon more then just X-harm.
-
I came across this on RPG Reddit and felt it was amazing for use in AP World. I've been keeping my group in the dark about where the city they are is located at so having a map without "Welcome to the City of blah blah" across the middle is hard to come across lol.
http://maps.stamen.com/#terrain/12/37.7706/-122.3782
I had problems doing their map capture part but I just did a screenshot and then pasted it in paint for editing.
Enjoy!

Loot tables have always been my favorite thing about traditional D&D, but I couldn't find any without that fantasy edge, so I made my own for AW. Roll a d100 (or 2d10) to get a trinket. Most items should be suited to most any post-apocalyptic setting. I have a name, some flavor text, and any relevant tags or stats. I strove for "interesting, but not especially valuable or immediately and obviously useful," although there are a few single-use 1-harm weapons listed. If an item is obviously useful or valuable, I tried to limit its uses--yeah, you've got cigarettes, but only a couple. Value-wise: something that could buy you a hot meal, or 1-2 days' worth of freeze-dried or shelf-stable food, or a night or two on a cot on someone's floor.
There are a few items which may or may not exist in your game (mobile phones, CD's, etc.) Reroll if you get something that doesn't mesh with your game.
I may make additional tables, because I really enjoy this sort of writing.
