Title: Speaking of the Maelstrom?

So, I've watched a lot of Adam's Roll20 Apocalypse games.
I intend to try and run something myself.

But I noticed that no-one has ever, IC, mentioned the Maelstrom. (at least as far as I can remember)
Is this expected from the players, or just a coincidence that no-one has chosen to speak of it?
