Title: At session start, roll Followers before or after changing highlights?

I'm planning to change my players' highlights, and I'm wondering whether or not to change them before or after a PC's Hocus Followers roll. Right now he has Weird highlighted, so I want to make sure he gets the right amount of experience.

Does it matter which way? If so, which way is better?

The Followers roll isn't based on roll+weird, it's based on roll+fortunes, so it doesn't matter which stats are highlighted.

That said, we always change highlighted stats before any rolls are made for the session.

This is how we do it as well, for what it's worth. Highlighting is the first mechanical thing we do, to start a new session.

Well, if people are going to have anything highlighted when they make start of session rolls (wealth, gigs etc) for the first session then you have to highlight first, then roll.

It doesn't really matter, when you think about it. Those rolls are going to be made every session regardless of what the player wants. Highlighting serves two purposes:
- dish out the xp
- tell the players what the others find interesting in your character right now

For the first one, it doesn't matter as long as you're consistent. If you change to hard from something else right before rolling Wealth, that means next session you'll have to change before rolling Wealth. If you re-highlight after rolling, it's... well, the point is it adds up to the same amount of xp regardless.

For the second reason, it doesn't matter. They won't choose to roll Wealth depending on whether the other players name Hard their interesting stat – they can't choose not to roll.
